To raise awareness
for CMV (cytomegalovirus), a virus that is harmful to fetuses if
contracted during pregnancy, Max's Miracle Be CMV Aware! teamed up with the
Nashville Sounds on
Saturday, June 27th, 2009. Shannon’s 17-month old son Maximus (Maxi) was born with CMV and
Shannon’s mission is to educate people on this disease.
The event’s purpose
corresponded with
The National CMV
Registry’s “Prevention Through Awareness” in order to spread
information on how CMV causes permanent disabilities in children such as
hearing or
vision loss
and how it may be prevented.
Also present at the
Nashville Sounds game was Conner Graham, a 4-year-old boy who got to
throw the first pitch of the game also lives with CMV. Along with Connor
and Max’s immediate families, over 40 family and friends came to support
Let’s Strike Out CMV. Strike Out CMV t-shirts were provided by Color My
Shirt screen-printing and CMV information and pennants were available
for visitors.
Today, Max’s
condition is monitored daily on the severity the virus will have on him
and Connor’s biggest problem is hearing loss.
The Nashville Sounds belted three home runs en route to
opening their home stand with an 11-5 victory over the
Oklahoma City RedHawks
on Saturday evening in front of 7,535 fans at historic Greer Stadium.
Let’s Strike Out
CMV successfully pitched awareness about the virus and hit a home run
against CMV.
